Interview & Hire Process

Most positions with the Comptroller of Maryland are filled through competitive examinations coordinated by the Department of Budget & Management. The Comptroller's personnel office, however, routinely accepts applications for classifications not tested by the Department of Budget & Management. These job opportunities are known as Interview & Hire positions and require completion of an “Interview & Hire Application”. These job opportunities include:

  • Building Service Worker I $20,772 - $32,014
  • Clerical Assistant $19,503 (Flat Rate)
  • Computer Operator Trainee $24,744 - $38,516
  • Data Entry Operator I $22,007 - $34,035
  • Data Entry Operator II $23,329 - $36,203
  • Data Processing Production Control Specialist Trainee $22,007 - $34,035
  • Data Processing Production Control Specialist I $24,744 - $38,516
  • Fiscal Accounts Clerk Trainee $22,007 - $34,035
  • Office Clerk Assistant $20,772 - $32,014
  • Office Processing Assistant $20,772 - $32,014
  • Office Processing Clerk I $22,007 - $34,035
  • Stock Clerk $20,772 - $32,014

When openings at these levels become available, the Personnel Office contacts individuals in our “Interview & Hire” interest file. “Interview & Hire” applications are retained for one year from the date they are received in the Comptroller's Personnel Office.
