ANNAPOLIS, MD (April 4, 2007) - Comptroller Peter Franchot today announced Mary Lou Maddox, 77, of Columbia, Md., as one millionth electronic filer. Ms. Maddox, a long-time electronic filer, chose to have her refund direct deposited for the first time this year as a way to get her refund more quickly.
"E-filing is easy, cheap and convenient," Ms. Maddox said. "It's a more efficient way to file your taxes and I'm very pleased with how well the process works."
So far this year, electronic filing is up about 8 percent above last year's totals. The process cuts down significantly on processing and staff costs in addition to reducing errors and delayed refunds.
"I encourage all Marylanders to file their taxes electronically," said Comptroller Franchot. "Like Ms. Maddox, taxpayers who e-file discover it as safe, fast and accurate. Whether you visit a professional preparer, use computer software or take advantage of our free online service (iFile), electronic filing is really your best option."
Maddox, the former White House worker served the public under five presidents dating back to Gerald Ford. She says she is, "proud of my state's government," and has found her dealings with the Comptroller's Office efficient and pleasant. She worked with CPA David Simmons to prepare her return.
