Comptroller Franchot Extends Tax Deadline for Nor'easter Storm Victims

ANNAPOLIS, MD (April 17, 2007) - Comptroller Peter Franchot today extended the state's filing deadline for people directly affected by the storm that hit the Northeast on Sunday and Monday. Impacted taxpayers now have until midnight Thursday, April 19 to file their state tax returns.

"Many last minute filers were unable to prepare their returns due to power outages and other storm-related problems," said Comptroller Franchot. "This extension will help ease the burden some are facing today."

The IRS is also offering similar accommodations for affected taxpayers. Comptroller's officials ask impacted taxpayers to mark their paper tax returns with the words "April 16 Storm," in order to prevent incurring late fees.
